Did Butch Cassidy live to another day?
Now that new questions arise as to Cassidy's survival in South Amrica and return to the U.S.A., I will express my long held view. There developed a romantic relationship between Cassidy and Sundance's lover. The story then has one of two possible two scenarios. The first sorta noble. The young lady not wishing to cause conflict between Cassidy and Sundance returns to the U.S. and drops out of sight. Cassidy wanting to survive and return to his love becomes very cautious in his exploits.Sundance conversely becomes more reckless in his adventures. Soon Cassidy becomes inactive to the point that Sundance looks for and obtains a new partner. Without Cassidy's planning and caution, Sundance and his new partner fall on hard times. They are cornered and the two of them are killed in the shoot out. Both are burried under the false assumption that the graves contain the bodies of Sundance and Cassidy. It was in no ones interest to question the death of Cassidy. With him believed to have been killed it was relatively easy for Cassidy to travel and leave the country. He then returned to the US. and joined his lover, who had established a reputable identity. With the noterity died down, Cassidy could live and travel without fear of recognition. Cassidy apparently became so complacent with his new identity, that he visited relatives to confirm his exixztance. Soon reports of his sightings caused the body believed to be his, to be exhumed and it was determined that in fact it was not. Consider great fanfare the Cassidy is dead, but no body to confirm it. After the girlfriend left hard times began to push the supposed pair to more reckless endeavors. The other less noble plot is that Cassidy pushed Sundance into reckless conduct and possibly tipped authorities to Sundace's activities and whereabouts. Which view do you believe is more credible?
